I was conversing with God about some issues facing me in life.Iit seemed like every situation I was in seemed impossible. From my perspective I had done everything within my power and absolutely could not change or fix a single thing. Why had God given me impossible situations? What did He expect? Did He set me up for failure? Oh I know all too well the feeling of never being good enough, never being sufficient enough, no matter how hard I tried always feeling like I was not enough. Wait! That was from a human perspective God wasn't like that. God didn't do that to people, He always had a purpose . I know God wasn't looking for me to be good enough I didn't have to earn His love. The Bible said He loved me while I was still a sinner. His love is not something I can earn. So why the impossible situation? Maybe, just maybe, God put me in an impossible situation so He could show how great He is.
David and all of Israel were in an impossible situation many times. Goliath was just the beginning of the impossible situations David would face. So what did God give David? Not armor, Saul and others tried to offer physical protection, armor and swords. It wouldn't work for David. God had given David other weapons. Courage, experience, intimate knowledge of himself and the simple weapon he already knew how to use. A slingshot.
David explains why in I Samuel 17:47 "All those who gathered here will know that it is not by sword or by spear that The Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands."
It was not by man's physical means. This is where God comes in. This is where the supernatural takes over. I have fought with every physical means I know how and the Giants are still standing here laughing. I'm using the wrong weapon.
I Samuel 17: 45 says,"I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, who you have defied.
I have literally looked for every possible human remedy for my impossible situations until I throw my hands up and realize I can not fix this mess. What does God want from me? Then I begin to realize that like David he wants me to trust Him for the outcome. He is stretching my faith. He wants me to put this theory of a big almighty God into action. It's no more talking about it, but actually standing on it. Do I believe He us able to do abundantly more than I can ask or even imagine?
David fought many more impossible battles where he was outnumbered, but God always brought victory when David followed Him. Jesus did the impossible with simply speaking a word or touching someone. God has always come through for His people in impossible situations. Can you believe Him today in your impossible situation? Whether it is finances, careers, relationships, health, etc. He is still a God of the miraculous. He has not lost his power. He will do it again.
